Four modules, sixteen hours.
Each module ends with something the student has actually built, so progress is visible from the very first week.
Module 1
Introduction to Python
- Programming concepts, and why Python is a beginner-friendly first language
- Setting up the Python environment
- Variables and data types: integers, floats and strings
- Basic operations and string manipulation
Module 2
Control flow
- Conditional statements: if, elif, else
- Loops: for loops and while loops
- Loop control with break and continue
Module 3
Functions and modules
- Defining functions with parameters and return values
- Importing and using built-in modules
- Writing and reusing your own modules
Module 4
Turtle graphics and simple games
- Drawing shapes and moving the turtle
- Creating animations with loops and conditions, changing colours and shapes dynamically
- Building simple games and implementing game mechanics
- Encouraging creativity in game design
Projects run through the whole course.
Mini-projects
Guided projects that reinforce each concept as it lands — drawing geometric shapes, building a simple calculator, designing a guessing game.
